How to customize a superior music controller with a SNES pad!

A few week ago i bougt myself a a SNES to USB controller to play retro, or very easy built, games more convenient.

I bought it  here at aliecpress for just 3$.

When it arrived i tried it out and everything worked fine. So it became part of my equipment.

Because i have to study a lot lately and i like listening to music of course i thought like "How cool would it be to use the SNES conroller for scrolling down my PDFs AND controling the music"

You need just one piece of software called AntiMicro
You can download it from Github here : AntiMicro

It basicly is like other Keyboard simulation software ( like Xpadder, JoytoKey,...) but the advantage is that it's easyer to use.

If you don't hve it already i also woulr recommend the VLC Media Player
You can download it  here (go to VLC) for free.

It is the best allrounder i know and very useful.


Instructions:


Global Hotkeys:


Before we start with antimicro we first have to make some global hotkeys we can use to control the VLC player.
Global hotkeys work even if you aren't focused on the programm you wanna control.

1. Open VLC player
2. Either press [Control + P] or open [Tools] and then [Settings]

A new window pops up.

Now choose the tab [Hotkeys]
You now can see on the right side the global hotkeys. At first these are empty.
You can fill them by clicking on the field and then useing your personal hotkey.

Don't forget to use something you won't need in an other programm.

For me the combination of [Control] + [Shift] + [Key] works great. As [Key] just type any letter on your keyboard like the arrows, F11, F12, ....

Don't forget to save your work!

The hotkey won't work immediatly. You have to close and open the Player.


AntiMicro settings:


Open AntiMicro and plug your controller in.
The Programm should automaticly notice your device.

Press a Button on your controller and a light will pop up.
By pressing the [A] Button on my SNES Controller it looks like this.

           
Now click on this blue button and a new window pops up which looks like a keyboard.
If you just want to give you controler a single Key as command you can press the key here.
But we will need the advanced settings.

Another window pops up and now you have to click on the empty box.

You now type the first key of your Global Hotkey you wanna use.
After that you do the same with the second and third until your hotkey is ready.

Now you just have to close the two open windows, save your work and try it out.
Your Global Hotkey is ready to use on you controller!!

You also can use this to put any other key on the controler for playing games like Super Mario, Pokemon,....


Give every Button a Name:

To recognice every button so you don't have to press them all the time you can give them names.
Therefor you need two fields.

Start Music immediatly Button (super cool):


With AntiMicro you also can make a button which opens the VLS Player AND puts in your playlist of choice.

You will need to open the [Advanced] setting
Then open the field [Execute]

Executable: here you have the insert the location of the VLC Player. Here you can see de default location.

Arguments: Copy and Paste the location of your playlist in this field. The playlist has a (.xdpf) ending and was made with the VLC Player.

After that, press the [Insert] Button.

Close the Windows and try it out!!
By pressing the button, the VLC player start immediatly playing you favourite music ;)
